Bucks County DUI & Criminal Defense Lawyer
Bucks County stretches from Bensalem to Quakertown, but every case past the preliminary hearing goes to the Justice Center in Doylestown.
Getting arrested in Bucks County
Bucks County has 54 municipalities, and the county's lower and upper ends feel very different. Lower Bucks towns like Bensalem, Bristol and Levittown are dense and busy. Upper Bucks around Quakertown and Perkasie is more rural. Most townships run their own police departments, and the State Police cover the Turnpike and some rural areas.
Frequent stop locations include I-95, Route 1, Route 611, Route 309, Route 413 and the Turnpike. The area around Parx Casino in Bensalem and the bars in New Hope account for a good number of late-night DUI arrests.
What happens next
People held after arrest are taken to the Bucks County Correctional Facility in Doylestown until bail is set. Most DUI cases start with a summons and a preliminary hearing at the local magisterial district court. Cases held for court go to the Bucks County Court of Common Pleas at the Justice Center on North Main Street.
Bucks County offers ARD for many first-time offenders. The District Attorney decides who gets in. If ARD is not available, we review the stop, the testing and the officer's report for problems before discussing any plea.
What is different about Bucks County
- From lower Bucks, the trip to Doylestown can take close to an hour, so we plan court dates with that in mind.
- Casino-area and New Hope arrests often happen late at night, which can raise questions about observations and testing.
- Drivers from New Jersey stopped near the bridges still have their cases handled in Bucks County.
